Answer:

Dear T**:

The difficulty in promoting any web site is determined by the amount of competition there is for that product or service, as well as the design of the web site and its general appeal to the search engines.

From a design standpoint the web site should, load fairly quickly, have a clean design, the message should come across early in the home page, and the key words and phrases (
search words and phrases) that should be used on the home page are those generally thought to be words and phrases that the potential client would use.  It is also important that they appear as close to the top of the page as possible.

If the web site goal is to produce potential customers (
which are the only kind that we deal with) then the meta tags should be targeted toward that potential client and also either be directly found on the home page or generally found in the context of the material written.

***
Any type of web site design, promotion, or hosting is highly competitive.  But I'm sure you know this.

The way we deal with the competition issue, and all other issues in promotion, is by the creation of meta tags containing key search words and phrases that are the most popular words and phrases used by searching public,  weighted by the use of those keywords and phrases by the competition.  In other words we attempt to determine (mathematically) the most popular keywords and phrases used by the public and the least popular keywords and phrases used by the competition.  Ordinarily this is successful, regardless of the type of web site were deal with.

With regard to the number of key search words and phrases used, we ask for three keywords or phrases.  The reason for this is not to limit the keywords and phrases, but they form a basis for what to our client believes are the most important keywords and phrases that their potential client orders.  We then search out (based on approximately 350 million searches) the most frequently related keywords and phrases that are targeted to the client's business.  Once we find the most popular keywords and phrases we evaluated them by measuring the amount of competition for each word or phrase.  For instance if our client is selling boats we might find that 25,000 web sites are using meta tags isolating the word "boat".  On the other hand we might find that the fifth most most popular key phrase is "fast boats" and there are only 800 web sites using the term "fast boats".  We might also find that "boat" was searched 300 times and fast boats were searched only 30 times.  Based upon our formulas it is possible and probable that we would opt for "fast boats" as opposed to "boat".

As you can see, we have the capacity to develop many keywords and phrases from the three that are supplied to us.  For any individual page we attempt to limit the keywords or phrases to around 20.

Thanks,

Bud
